About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Culinary Team Lead to join our Catering team at Heaton School. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the preparation and cooking of meals for children, ensuring compliance with food specification nutritional standards, and maintaining a safe and healthy kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Menu Planning and Execution: Plan and prepare menus that meet the nutritional standards and dietary requirements of our students, ensuring that all meals are cooked to perfection and presented in an appealing manner.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the work of catering staff, providing guidance and support to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Food Safety and Quality Control: Ensure that all food safety and quality control procedures are followed, including proper storage, handling, and preparation of food, to maintain a high standard of quality and safety.
  • Inventory Management: Manage the inventory of food and supplies, ensuring that all stock is properly stored and rotated to minimize waste and ensure that all necessary items are available when needed.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, ensuring that all equipment and utensils are properly cleaned and sanitized, and that the kitchen is free from clutter and hazards.
  • Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to new staff members, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Communication and Liaison: Liaise with head teachers, school personnel, contractors, suppliers, pupils, and parents to ensure that all needs are met and that the catering service is running smoothly.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 in professional cookery or equivalent is essential.
  • Experience: Proven experience in a similar role, with a strong background in menu planning, food safety, and team leadership.
  • Skills: Excellent culinary skills, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to work well under pressure.
