About the Role

This exciting opportunity has arisen for a Youth Development Specialist to join Leeds City Council's children's services. As a Residential Practitioner, you will play a vital part in each child's journey towards adulthood and independence.

You will be responsible for fostering positive relationships with children and young people, maintaining strong bonds based on shared daily life and routines, joint activities, and established boundaries of acceptable behaviour.

Key responsibilities include undertaking key worker roles, implementing care plans, conducting risk assessments, and devising support and health plans. You will also provide and maintain a safe, stimulating, and secure living and learning environment, supporting day-to-day physical and emotional needs.

About You

We are looking for a skilled and compassionate individual who can demonstrate excellent communication and listening skills, teamwork, and emotional intelligence. A good standard of literacy and numeracy, along with basic computer literacy, is essential. Recent experience supporting children or young people with additional emotional/behavioural issues is also required.

Requirements
  • Flexibility to travel and work across different locations, including providing support to children living within family settings as appropriate
  • Availability to work on a rota basis and change work patterns as reasonably required, including undertaking sleep-ins, early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and bank holidays
  • Ability to build relationships and actively engage with individual and groups of children and young people
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with a wide range of people
Benefits

We offer a competitive salary of £24,495.96, rising incrementally to £26,844.96. In addition, enhancements are paid for unsocial hours and sleeping in duties. Time and a half is paid for weekend working. This can potentially take the salary to a combined amount of £29,817 - £32,419 based on full-time hours.
