Archive Conservator

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Conservator: Preventive to join our Department of Collection Care. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in the care and preservation of our world-class collection.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct thorough assessments of collection condition and develop effective preventive conservation strategies to ensure long-term preservation.
- Lead the care of the collection through environmental management, monitoring, and reporting, as well as supporting Integrated Pest Management.
- Develop and disseminate guidance on preventive conservation, collection care, and risk management to colleagues and stakeholders.
- Coordinate and improve the management and maintenance of the collection environmental monitoring system across the Museum's estate.
- Apply expertise, judgment, innovation, and adaptability to solve complex problems related to preventive conservation, display, storage, and handling of objects.
- Hold a recognized professional conservation qualification to degree level or equivalent, with a focus on preventive conservation.
- Have considerable post-qualification experience working in the heritage sector, with a strong understanding of mechanisms involved in material deterioration.
- Be proficient in preventive conservation skills, with a strong understanding of contemporary principles and practice.
- Have experience devising preventive measures, involvement in display, loans, and storage activities, and a solid understanding of conservation theory and ethical decision-making.
- Be an excellent problem solver and decision-maker, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
