Job Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Conservator to manage the conservation of a project that includes the conservation and digitisation of collections held by The National Archives. The successful candidate will have a strong background in the treatment and preservation of historic paper-based collections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and update the bespoke training package for Conservators, and Digitisation Technicians and Supervisors, ensuring it remains relevant to the condition issues likely to be encountered in the collections.
  • Deliver the bespoke training package to the team including refresher training.
  • Manage and update all handling training in line with current TNA guidelines and standards.
  • Supervise Conservation staff to ensure high-quality work is performed efficiently.
  • Carry out regular quality assurance checks of the work of conservation and digitisation technicians.
  • Manage the process for any mould affected collection items ensuring Ancestry staff comply with TNAs procedures.
  • Take a leading role in managing staff well-being and organizing activities to foster a positive working environment.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience and advanced knowledge in the treatment and preservation of historic paper-based collections.
  • Excellent prioritization, planning, and organizational skills, with attention to detail.

Contract: Part-time, fixed term (Project expected to last until September 2027)

Salary: £39k per annum pro-rata
