Clinical Lead for Intellectual Disability Services

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust. As a Specialist Consultant for Adults with Learning Disabilities, you will play a key role in providing high-quality care to patients with complex needs.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in intellectual disability psychiatry and a passion for delivering person-centered care. You will be responsible for managing a clinical caseload, supervising junior medical staff, and participating in service and business planning activities.

The post is part of a Directorate of nine Consultant Psychiatrists working in Intellectual Disabilities across BSW ICB. You will have access to CPD and PDP activities organized by the local Learning Disability Consultant group.

Responsibilities include:
- Managing a clinical caseload of patients with mental illness, epilepsy, or neuropsychiatric needs, autism spectrum disorder, challenging behavior, and complex needs.
- Managing, appraising, and giving professional supervision to junior medical staff.
- Ensuring junior medical staff operate within the parameters of the New Junior Doctor Contract 2016 and are Working Time Directive compliant.
- Undertaking administrative duties associated with patient care.
- Recording clinical activity accurately and submitting it promptly to the Information Department.
- Participating in service and business planning activities for the locality and the whole mental health service.
- Participating in annual appraisal for consultants.
- Attending and participating in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars.
- Maintaining professional registration with the General Medical Council and abiding by professional codes of conduct.
We are a diverse organization with over 5,000 dedicated staff providing inpatient and community-based mental health care. We provide services to approximately 1.8 million people living in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, and parts of Dorset.
