Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Biosafety Advisor to join our team within the Science, Research & Innovation group at the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency.

This is a full-time opportunity on a 2-year fixed-term contract. The role will be based onsite in South Mimms, Hertfordshire, and requires a minimum of 8 days per month working on site to enable collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will provide expert guidance and advice on biosafety matters, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and mitigating identified safety concerns. They will work closely with the Biological Safety Officer and Deputy to provide advice and support to their biosafety activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice on risk assessments related to biological agents, genetically modified organisms, and other hazardous materials.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant biosafety regulations, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Be involved in discussions with HSE and specialist safety inspectorates to implement recommendations for improvements.
  • Develop, review, and implement biosafety policies and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and responsibility.

Person Specification:

  • Degree in an appropriate life science subject or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant area (NEBOSH diploma desirable).
  • Experience in biological safety to high containment.
  • Extensive post-qualification H&S and laboratory experience.
  • Ability to deliver at pace and ensure clear understanding of roles, responsibilities, and business priorities.
