Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Biological Safety Specialist to join our Health and Safety Team at The Francis Crick Institute. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice on biological safety and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a point of contact for biological safety queries and provide specialist advice to researchers and support staff.
  • Develop and maintain written biological safety documentation, including standards, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Review and approve risk assessments for biological agents and genetic modification.
  • Advise on the safe handling, storage, and disposal of biological agents.
  • Participate in Biological Agent and Genetic Modification Safety Committee meetings.
  • Support the Health and Safety Team with communication and consultation on health and safety matters.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Biological science degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum Level 3 Health and Safety qualification, such as NEBOSH certificate or equivalent.
  • Completed Biosafety Practitioner Level 1.
  • Relevant membership of IOSH with the desire to progress to Chartered Membership.
  • Understanding of legislation that applies to biological safety and how these apply to The Francis Crick Institute.
  • Proven experience in a similar Health and Safety role, ideally from within scientific research, universities, or similar environment.
