About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Physician in General Medicine to join our team at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. As a General Medicine Specialist, you will be responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of illness for a number of general medical in-patients.

Main Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for diagnosis and treatment of illness for a number of general medical in-patients.
  • Participation in the general medical emergency on-call rota, with a reduced frequency of 1:11 weekdays.
  • Undertaking evening and morning weekday ward rounds, as well as Acute and GIM weekend rounds, as outlined in the job plan.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Membership with the relevant Royal College for the speciality.
  • GMC registration and license to practice.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Geriatrics and general medicine via a CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community rights.

Experience and Skills

  • Completion of a recognised training programme in General Internal Medicine.
  • Demonstration of a high level of clinical experience and competence in GIM.
  • IT skills.

Teaching, Audit and Research, Motivation, Management, and Personal Skills

  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, post-graduates and junior medical staff.
  • Participation in clinical audit relevant to specialty.
  • Commitment to the development of a high quality cost effective service.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current NHS issues.
  • Ability to develop services.
  • Energy and enthusiasm and the ability to work under pressure.
  • An enquiring and critical approach to work.
  • Caring attitude to patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other staff and agencies.
  • Commitment to continuing medical education and professional development.
