Job Title: Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine to join our dynamic team at St Marys Hospital on the Isle of Wight. As a key member of our Acute Medicine team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, leading clinical teams, and contributing to the development of our Acute Medicine services.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong background in General Internal Medicine and Acute Medicine, with experience in leading clinical teams and developing services. You will be responsible for covering a range of clinical duties, including patient care on Acute Medical Wards and in the Same Day Emergency Care Department.

You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide seamless care for patients, including early senior clinical decision making and support as appropriate. You will also contribute to the Medicine on call roster and participate in education, mentoring, and supervision of junior medical staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality patient care on Acute Medical Wards and in the Same Day Emergency Care Department
  • Lead clinical teams and contribute to the development of our Acute Medicine services
  • Work closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide seamless care for patients
  • Contribute to the Medicine on call roster
  • Participate in education, mentoring, and supervision of junior medical staff
Person Specification
  • MBBS or equivalent MRCP or equivalent
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for General Internal Medicine; eligible for entry on the Register or within 6 months of the receipt of Certificate of Completed Training (CCT) at the time of interview
  • Experience in leading clinical teams and developing services
  • Strong background in General Internal Medicine and Acute Medicine
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Experience in Postgraduate teaching
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit relevant to specialty
  • Commitment to the development of a high-quality, cost-effective service to Acute and General Internal Medicine
  • Knowledge and understanding of current NHS issues
  • Ability to develop services
  • Willingness and ability to work collaboratively as part of a clinical and non-clinical team
  • Full registration with General Medical Council and licence to practise by date of appointment
  • Available on Isle of Wight when on call
  • Appropriate immigration status
  • CCT in Acute Internal Medicine
  • Experience of running a Medical Assessment Unit
  • Experience of Acute Medical Service development
  • Knowledge of the Enhanced Recovery Programme
  • Published audits
  • Publication in reviewed journals
  • Attendance at recognised management course
  • Attendance at communications workshop/courses
  • Current driving licence
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this role is £105,504 to £139,882 per annum, pro rata. We also offer a range of benefits, including an onsite day nursery, cycle to work scheme, discounts at local businesses and gyms, and the opportunity to hire the Trust's beach hut in Ryde.

Contract and Working Pattern

This is a permanent full-time role, with flexible working and compressed hours available.
