Job Title: Paediatric Intensive Care Unit Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric Intensive Care Unit Nurse to join our team at Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a Band 6 Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to critically ill children, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Care for level 3 and 2 patients, including those requiring advanced therapies such as nitric oxide and haemofiltration.
  • Support, teach, and be a role model for other staff on the PICU and the wider MDT.
  • Carry the Paediatric resuscitation and trauma bleeps.
  • Support and line manage band 5, 4, and 3 staff members within their team.
  • Be the shift co-ordinator of the PICU when required, dealing with admissions/discharges, staffing issues, and liaising with all members of the MDT.
  • Bleep holder for Children's services, coordinating admissions/transfers/discharges, supporting staff across all Paediatric areas, and escalating issues appropriately.
Requirements:
  • RN (Child) qualification.
  • Relevant post-registration paediatric critical care qualification (equivalent to ENB 415).
  • Evidence of degree-level study or equivalent.
  • Child protection training.
  • Relevant teaching and assessing/mentorship course.
  • Advanced level child protection training.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development at degree level.
Experience:
  • Evidence of delivery and supervision of learners in the delivery of evidenced-based nursing care to level 1, 2, and 3 patients without supervision, at Band 5 to children in a paediatric intensive care setting.
  • Evidence of assessment, planning, set-up, and delivery of advanced ventilation in the form of HFOV, Nitric Oxide, and Renal Replacement Therapy.
  • Evidence of experience in retrievals.
  • Supervision and teaching of staff in delivery of Haemofiltration/High Frequency Oscillation/NO therapy.
Knowledge:
  • Works within the boundaries of government directives and professional nursing issues.
  • Evidence of current paediatric nursing skills and knowledge.
  • Current knowledge of research developments in paediatric nursing.
Skills:
  • Competent to lead others in the care of children and their families in a safe and effective manner without direct supervision.
  • Advocate of paediatric nursing.
  • Evidence of excellent team work.
  • Evidence of participation in research and audit projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
