About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Behaviour Support Teacher to join our team at Wiltshire Council. As a Behaviour Support Teacher, you will play a key role in shaping our approach to behaviour management and creating a positive learning environment for our pupils.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise and provide training for primary school staff to enable them to manage the social and emotional needs of pupils, promote inclusion, and prevent exclusion from school.
  • Support the development of a whole school approach towards the management of behaviour and the creation of a positive learning environment.
  • Apply teaching knowledge, skills, and experience to assist school colleagues in the development of appropriate skills to enable the successful inclusion of pupils with SEMH needs in their learning environment.
  • Support the inclusion of pupils with recognised emotional wellbeing and behavioural needs.
  • Raise awareness within schools and settings of the additional needs of pupils experiencing social, emotional, and mental health difficulties.
  • Provide training to school staff, including headteachers, SENCos, teachers, and other support staff, to enable them to successfully include pupils with SEMH needs and implement aspects of a pupil's individual support programme.
  • Provide advice to Council Officers regarding meeting the needs and requirements of pupils with SEMH needs.
Person Specification
  • QTS and a minimum of 5 years teaching experience.
  • Team player with a flexible attitude.
  • Knowledge of a variety of strategies for behaviour and its implications for schools.
  • Experienced primary school teacher.
  • Experience of working with pupils and young people with SEMH needs over time.
  • Ability to work independently, while working as part of the primary Behaviour Support Service.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confident in the use of a range of information and communication technology (ICT) as an integral element of work practice.
  • Through quality and style of interaction, able to influence the behaviours and practices of pupils and a range of adults across different contexts.
  • Ability to work prioritise own workload.
  • Sound knowledge of child development.
  • Committed to reflective practice and continuous service improvement.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with, and the safeguarding of, vulnerable children.
