Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Property Surveyor to provide cover for maternity leave, supporting the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle in the care and maintenance of its properties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Property Review and Maintenance: Assist in reviewing Diocesan properties to ensure they support the mission and are sustainable for the future.
  • Survey and Recommendations: Undertake quinquennial surveys and provide prioritized recommendations for remedial works, including budget costs.
  • Building Defects Analysis: Analyze building defects and prepare specifications for appropriate remedial works.
  • Survey Reports and Advice: Compile and issue written survey reports, providing advice and guidance to Clergy and parish representatives on property matters.
  • Contractor Management: Coordinate the contractor tendering process, administer construction contracts, and carry out site inspections to assess quality and workmanship.
  • Statutory Compliance: Assess buildings for statutory compliance, advise on compliance with statutory requirements, and manage asbestos.
  • Diocesan School Support: Support Diocesan schools with land and property matters.
  • Property Lettings and Rentals: Assist with the management of property lettings, rentals, reviews, and service charges.
  • Boundary and Property Issues: Deal with boundary and other property issues, including party wall matters.
  • Property Acquisition and Disposal: Assist with the acquisition and disposal of properties.
  • Insurance and Claims: Liaise with insurers and loss adjustors in relation to buildings insurance claims and related building works.
Requirements
  • Qualifications and Experience: A relevant degree or equivalent experience working within the property profession in the corporate, charitable, or consultancy sectors.
  • Building Condition Surveys: Experience of undertaking building condition surveys.
  • Historic and Listed Buildings: Experience of working with historic and listed buildings.
  • Building Pathology: Extensive knowledge and experience in building pathology, including the ability to specify appropriate repairs relative to the age and style of construction.
  • Health and Safety: An understanding of health and safety legislation, including CDM and the Control of Asbestos.
  • Building Regulations: Sound knowledge of the Building Regulations and their practical implications.
  • Physical Abilities: The ability to access buildings by ladder or scaffolding.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational, administrative, and IT skills.
  • Flexibility: A willingness to occasionally work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Travel: A full Driving Licence, access to a car, and willingness to travel throughout the Diocese.
