Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring efficient and effective food preparation and service.
  • Maintain good food storage procedures and stock rotation, adhering to established protocols.
  • Prepare, plan, and cook meals to a consistently high standard, taking into account special requests and dietary requirements.
  • Serve food and beverages to patients, staff, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Prepare and produce food for conferences and banquets, ensuring high-quality presentation and service.
  • Participate in food costings through effective cost control procedures, ensuring optimal resource utilization.
  • Adhere to 'Safer Food Better Business' standards and record-keeping, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Take full shift responsibility for the catering operation, ensuring seamless service delivery.
  • Assist the Head Chef in researching and creating new menus, ensuring meals meet healthy eating guidelines and are of high quality.
  • Correctly fill all paperwork related to the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point system (HACCP), including fridge temperatures, food temperature logs, and cleaning schedules.
Requirements
  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Hold GCSE or equivalent English.
  • Hold City & Guilds 706/1 and 2 (or equivalent) Basic Food Preparation Cooking.
  • Hold Basic Food Hygiene certification.
  • Have a supervising qualification or be working towards one.
  • Have experience preparing and producing quality food to a high standard.
  • Have knowledge of menu planning and costing.
  • Have previous experience in delivering a service on a large scale.

Thornford Park Hospital is a 130-bedded independent hospital providing medium and low secure Forensic Mental Health Services. We offer a seamless internal care pathway, supporting and empowering individuals in their recovery and rehabilitation. Our multidisciplinary team provides personalized assessment and treatment programs for males with mental illness/complex care needs, as well as those with personality disorder, and females and males in a PICU service.
