Workshop Manufacturing Engineer

About the Role
The primary objective of this position is to design and manufacture innovative experimental devices that contribute to the development of new research and teaching initiatives within the MFL/APL departments at UCL Eastman Dental Institute.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and manufacturing novel experimental devices that meet the requirements of research and teaching initiatives.
- Providing technical support and assistance to research and teaching staff, including academics and post-doctoral researchers.
- Aiding academics in the teaching of the Precision Manufacturing module and providing technical guidance to students.
- Working with post-doctoral researchers and academic staff to ensure the timely delivery of equipment.
- Performing routine maintenance and repairs on workshop tools and machinery to ensure optimal functionality and minimize downtime.
- Keeping detailed records of projects, including design/drawings and test data, to ensure full traceability.
- Adhering to the latest health and safety protocols and guidelines to promote a secure working environment.
About You
The successful candidate will be an experienced prototype engineer with a deep understanding of CAD/CAM and CNC machining.
- A solid background and proficiency in traditional manufacturing methods, including manual machining, is essential.
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills are required to translate ideas into fully functioning prototypes.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and adapt to the demands of a busy workshop is crucial.
- Awareness of and adherence to the latest safety standards and procedures associated with a mechanical workshop is essential.
- Adaptability, creativity, and a willingness to experiment are essential qualities for success in this role.
