Job Summary

The Department for Business and Trade is seeking a highly skilled policy specialist to join its team. As a key member of the Business Finance team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the UK's access to finance policy, working closely with the British Business Bank and other stakeholders to deliver the Government's objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice to Ministers and senior officials on access to finance policy, ensuring that the UK's business finance ecosystem is supportive of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
  • Work closely with the British Business Bank to develop and deliver the Government's access to finance programmes, ensuring that they are effective in supporting SMEs and delivering value for money.
  • Lead on policy development, analysis, and evaluation, identifying opportunities to improve the UK's business finance ecosystem and making recommendations to Ministers and senior officials.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including the British Business Bank, HM Treasury, and other government departments, to ensure effective collaboration and coordination on access to finance policy.
  • Provide high-quality briefings, submissions, and performance reporting to Ministers, senior officials, and other stakeholders, ensuring that they are well-informed and equipped to make informed decisions.
Requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify potential risks and issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence others and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of access to finance policy and the UK's business finance ecosystem, with the ability to analyze complex data and make informed recommendations.
