About the Role


We are seeking a Consultant Rheumatologist to join our department at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. As a Consultant Rheumatologist, you will be responsible for providing a high-quality service in Rheumatology, with a focus on out-patients, day-case procedures, and in-patient referrals requiring rheumatology specialist input.


Main Duties



  • To provide a service in Rheumatology with responsibility for out-patients, day case rheumatology procedures and in-patient referrals requiring rheumatology specialist input.
  • To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave.
  • Participate in medical audit and research as appropriate.
  • Ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.

Facilities and Support Services



  • We have dedicated outpatient facilities within the main hospital, with direct access to the electronic patient record and paper notes.
  • Our team includes highly skilled nurses who are trained in chemotherapy and provide monitoring for patients starting new DMARDs/biologics.
  • We have access to two hydrotherapy pools, one of which is on site, and a shared day case facility with others requiring chemotherapy and biologics.
  • Our department has excellent relationships with the orthopaedic surgeons and provides a range of services, including ultrasound scans of joints, CT, MRI, and PET scanning.

Teaching and Supervision



  • We have a strong focus on education and professional development, with opportunities for Consultants to present Grand Rounds, teach medical students, and act as clinical supervisors.
  • We have a monthly MDT with colleagues across South Yorkshire to discuss difficult cases and share best practice.

Research and Audit


We have a strong research and audit culture, with opportunities for Consultants to participate in clinical effectiveness meetings and contribute to audits and service reviews.


Person Specification


Essential



  • Full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC
  • Eligible to be included on the Specialist register - CCT expected within 6 months of interview date.
  • MBBS or MRCP Primary medical qualification.

Desirable



  • Higher Medical Degree
  • Subspecialty training or equivalent such as in connective tissue disease
