Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Urology Nurse Specialist to lead our Nurse-Led Catheter Clinic. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and leading a team of nurses to provide high-quality care to patients with long-term urethral/suprapubic urinary catheters.

Main Responsibilities

  • To lead on nurse-led service in line with identified protocols and clinical guidance.
  • To arrange patient follow-up appointments, respond to general enquiries, provide education as required, and make new patient appointments.
  • To work independently with a caseload of patients, ensuring comprehensive assessments, targeted education, and planned regular follow-up appointments as per individual care plans.
  • To oversee the booking of transport as per patient requirements.
  • To ensure the catheter service has adequate supplies to function.
  • To function as a positive role model and resource for all staff, disseminating clinical skills and knowledge.
  • To provide onward referral to other community/hospital services, including health and social care, to ensure safe patient management.
  • To establish and maintain links with hospital urology consultants and urology nurse specialists.
  • To establish and maintain effective communication and relationships across all disciplines and services.

Requirements

  • First-level Registered Nurse currently registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council/BSc (Hons)
  • Physical Clinical Assessment Skills Course
  • Practice educator or other teaching qualification or equivalent experience
  • Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP)

Desirable

  • Postgraduate diploma in Urology nursing
  • Management training or equivalent experience
