About the Role

The Senior Solar Solution Engineer sits within the Group Technical department at RES and reports to the Solar Lead. This position provides support for solar PV projects, primarily in the design and permitting phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out feasibility assessments to determine the viability of solar PV projects.
  • Conducting solar resource assessments and energy yield assessments to optimize project performance.
  • Leading the techno-economic optimization of solar projects, including solar PV system design and its impact on Balance of System.
  • Performing miscellaneous analyses in support of project development, such as resource and yield assessments.
  • Supporting the development of less experienced team members and providing guidance on project-related tasks.
  • Collaborating with the procurement team to discuss supplier options and provide input on EPC contracts.
  • Providing technical input into design, commissioning, and performance-related aspects of solar PV projects.
  • Carrying out ad-hoc analysis and tool development to support project development and optimization.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of statistics and the Solar PV industry, with a focus on utility-scale solar PV projects.
  • Excellent report writing skills, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Experience

  • Experience working on utility-scale solar PV projects, with a focus on system-wide design, including PV design, string sizing, inverter loading ratios, energy modeling, and layouts.
  • Experience collaborating on multi-disciplinary projects, with a focus on solar PV system design and optimization.
  • Experience with PV simulation software, such as PVSyst, and performance testing of solar PV systems.
  • Experience designing for constructability and installation, as well as providing technical input into EPC contracts.
  • Experience with GIS and programming languages, such as Python, is an advantage.

Qualifications

  • Degree-level qualification in an engineering or science discipline, or a suitable trade/non-vocational background with relevant experience.
