Job OverviewThis is an exceptional chance to become part of the haematology team, providing care for patients with acute porphyria as part of a nationally commissioned highly specialised service.
The role involves outpatient clinics, remote management of patients across the country, inpatient care of patients admitted to Kings, support for the porphyria homecare nursing service, teaching and liaison with haematology and porphyria laboratories.
Apart from specialist knowledge, no prior experience is expected, and training will be provided for the successful candidate.
Main Responsibilities- Conduct outpatient clinics for patients with acute porphyria in Kings College Hospital (typically once per week) and at other hospitals across England (typically once per month).
- Offer expert advice to other hospitals across the UK on the investigation and management of patients admitted with possible or established acute porphyria.
- Provide telephone/email guidance to patients with acute porphyria across England.
- Review inpatients at Kings College Hospital admitted with acute porphyria or related problems (typically 5 – 10 per year).
- Develop and deliver educational sessions for medical, nursing, and laboratory staff about clinical aspects of porphyria.
- Collaborate with the porphyria and haematology laboratories involved in the diagnosis and management of patients with acute porphyria.
- Participate in laboratory, translational, and clinical research projects, including clinical trials, of patients with acute porphyria.
- FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
- MRCP or equivalent certification.
- PhD or MD (obtained or in progress).
- Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Experience in all aspects of haematology culminating in award of CCT or equivalent.
- Previous experience of managing patients with inherited haematological or metabolic conditions.
We are offering a competitive salary range of £105,504 - £139,882 per annum excl. London Zone Allowance, making this an attractive opportunity for those seeking a challenging role in haematology.
