Senior IT Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior IT Engineer to join our team at Pure Resourcing Solutions Limited. As a Senior IT Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our IT infrastructure, ensuring the smooth operation of our systems and providing exceptional support to our staff and students.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. IT Infrastructure Management: Act as system owner and administrator for infrastructure, including networks, Microsoft/Office 365 environments, storage solutions, and virtualisation.
  2. Technical Support: Provide support for Microsoft Server, Linux, and desktop operating systems.
  3. Cyber Security: Ensure cyber security standards are met, including security patching, monitoring, and incident response.
  4. Disaster Recovery: Lead Disaster Recovery, backup planning, and business continuity testing.
  5. IT Performance Monitoring: Monitor IT performance, proactively managing capacity issues.
  6. Strategic Projects: Collaborate with the IT Manager on strategic projects and oversee operational IT projects.
  7. Purchasing Recommendations: Make informed purchasing recommendations in line with College policies.
  8. IT Helpdesk Support: Support IT helpdesk services, assisting the IT & AV Engineer in providing user support to students, staff, and guests.
  9. Out-of-Hours Support: Participate in out-of-hours support as part of an on-call rota.
  10. Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry best practices, data protection, and information security standards.
  11. IT Systems Standards: Provide technical input to the development of IT systems standards and strategies.
  12. Intercollegiate Collaboration: Collaborate with central university IT services and support intercollegiate tasks.
Requirements:
  1. Previous Experience: Previous experience in delivering 2nd line IT support.
  2. Technical Expertise: Strong technical expertise with IT systems, including Microsoft Server, Active Directory, Linux, and virtualisation technologies.
  3. Cloud Services: Experience managing networks (HP Aruba switches, FortiGate firewalls, VLANs, NAC), and cloud services (Azure, Office 365).
  4. Proactive Problem-Solving: Proactive in addressing issues and managing helpdesk requests efficiently.
  5. Education or Commercial IT: Experience in educational or commercial IT environments is an advantage.
