Job Summary

The Department for Transport is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director for External Engagement to lead the development and implementation of effective external engagement strategies. As a key member of the Communications Directorate, you will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with influential individuals and organisations to support the Department's goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of external engagement strategies to support the Department's goals and objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with influential individuals and organisations to support the Department's goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of plans and proposals to ensure alignment with departmental goals and objectives.
  • Provide expert communications advice to senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Lead and manage a team of communications professionals to deliver high-quality external engagement activities.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in external engagement and communications, with a strong track record of delivering high-profile communications strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to establish credibility quickly with a diverse network of senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to see the bigger picture and understand the social and political context of the Department's work.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead and manage a team of communications professionals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
