About the Role

As a Behaviour Learning Assistant, you will support young people who may display a range of behaviours associated with SEMH, including withdrawal, anxiety, oppositional defiance, and other conduct issues. Some pupils may also have recognised disorders such as ADD, ADHD, attachment disorders, or generalised anxiety disorders. Your role will involve providing support both academically and emotionally, helping students manage their behaviour and develop their social skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in the delivery of tailored learning plans that meet the individual needs of each pupil.
  • Support students' social and emotional development, helping them navigate challenges related to SEMH.
  • Manage and respond to challenging behaviour, ensuring a safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to monitor students' progress and adapt support where necessary.
  • Promote inclusion and build positive relationships with pupils, helping them feel understood and supported.
  • Contribute to the implementation of EHCPs, ensuring the specific needs of each pupil are met.
Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, ideally in an educational setting.
  • A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach to working with children who may display challenging behaviour.
  • An understanding of conditions such as ADHD, ADD, attachment disorder, and anxiety disorders.
  • The ability to work well within a team, as well as independently.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to working with children with additional needs.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (desirable but not essential).
