Job Title: Dietitian Specialist Oncology

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Dietitian Specialist Oncology to join our team at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Dietitian to lead our Upper GI outpatient dietetic service. As an oncology specialist, you will be clinically responsible for the nutritional care of upper GI outpatients and will independently plan, organise, and prioritise patient-related and professional demands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Upper GI outpatient dietetic service with the support of dietetic managers.
  • Be clinically responsible for the nutritional care of upper GI outpatients.
  • Supervise band 6 dietitians daily, carrying out regular one-to-one meetings, annual PDRs, and first stages of management of absence.
  • Nutritionally assess upper GI patients using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary data.
  • Convey complex specialized dietary advice and lifestyle changes to patients and carers using advanced counselling and communication skills.
  • Diagnose malnutrition and/or risk of Refeeding Syndrome and liaise with consultants to optimise treatment outcomes.
  • Attend multidisciplinary meetings and outpatient clinics to provide expert advice on nutritional support for upper GI oncology patients and carers.
  • Liaise with the UGI MDT, primary care, and other healthcare professionals across Greater Manchester.
  • Refer patients to primary, secondary, or alternative tertiary care for monitoring and therapeutic support as appropriate.
  • Write, deliver, and evaluate internal and external education and training sessions on nutrition and specialist dietetics in relation to oncology.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date documentation on individual patients in line with local and national standards.
  • Record and collate clinical and patient outcome measures to provide information for service evaluation and research projects.
  • Take an active/lead role in research and audit generation with UGI medical staff, nursing staff, and other AHP colleagues in UGI cancer.
Requirements
  • BSc Nutrition & Dietetics or BSc degree in a relevant science subject plus Postgraduate Diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics.
  • Clinical supervision training or equivalent course.
  • Extensive and recent experience of working in UGI cancer, acute oncology, and palliative care.
  • Clinical supervision, student training, supervision skills, leadership skills, and ability to integrate well into teams.
  • Sound knowledge of current issues relating to cancer and nutrition support.
  • Knowledge of national UGI oncology strategies, policies, guidance, and pathways.
