About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Rights of Way Specialist to join our team at West Northants Council. As a key member of our highways team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate preparation and publication of the Definitive Map and Statement.

Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the legal changes to the rights of way network in West Northamptonshire, ensuring the legal integrity of the Definitive Map and Statement is preserved at all times.

You will be responsible for preparing periodic Legal Event Orders, investigating applications for Definitive Map Modification Orders and Public Path Orders, and producing reports with recommendations for the officer with delegated powers.

As a Public Rights of Way Specialist, you will work closely with our planning departments to provide expert advice on the making and confirming of Public Path Orders under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.

You will also contribute to the content and policies within the local Rights of Way Improvement Plan and Local Transport Plan, setting targets for the next five years.

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced individual who has a good understanding of the legal and historical background to the Definitive Map, with a working knowledge of highway, environmental or land law.

You will have excellent IT skills and the ability to use GIS applications, as well as a good eye for detail and the ability to draft Orders or legally binding agreements.
