Reentry Support Counselor

Position Overview
This rewarding role is situated within the Reentry, Programs, and Education Unit at the Department of Corrections. You will be instrumental in enhancing public safety and decreasing recidivism by delivering essential services to individuals on probation in partnership with various state and local organizations.
- Provide Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) services in accordance with State Opioid Response (SOR) and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) guidelines.
- Assist individuals under state supervision, fostering recovery and employing recovery-oriented language in PRS documentation.
- Highlight your expertise in casework counseling and your completion of the 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist training from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services.
- Exhibit a positive outlook on the recovery journeys of probationers and effectively engage with individuals through strong communication skills.
Essential Qualifications
Proven experience in casework counseling, completion of the 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist training, and a thorough understanding of recovery methodologies. Candidates must possess the ability to communicate clearly, connect with individuals at various stages of change, and maintain ethical standards and confidentiality while supporting recovery pathways.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who are VA Certified Peer Recovery Specialists, have experience as a VADOC PRS Vendor, and hold certification as a facilitator for Evidence-Based recovery groups.
