Job Summary

This position is part of the Reentry, Programs, and Education Unit at the Department of Corrections Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chesterfield Women's CCAP and work closely with state and local partners to promote public safety and reduce recidivism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) services to individuals on state responsible supervision in accordance with State Opioid Response (SOR) and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) funding requirements.
  • Collaborate with state and local partners to support probationers through a continuum of services.
  • Engage difficult-to-reach individuals and identify their stage of change to provide effective support.
  • Document PRS services using recovery language and maintain confidentiality and ethical responsibility.
Requirements
  • Casework counseling experience.
  • Completed Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist training.
  • Experience reflecting optimism of a probationer's ability to enter recovery and sustain recovery.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to support all pathways in recovery.
Preferred Qualifications
  • VA Certified Peer Recovery Specialist.
  • Experience as a VADOC PRS Vendor.
  • Certified facilitator for Evidence-Based recovery groups.
What We Offer

This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

This is a wage-restricted position, classified with at least 10% of its funding from non-continuous or non-recurring funding sources, such as grants, donations, contracts, capital outlay projects, or higher education auxiliary enterprise revenues.
