Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to join our client, a well-established building contractor in the North East. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a crucial role in managing contracts and ensuring smooth project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and agree valuations with clients, ensuring timely payments according to subcontract agreements.
  • Accurately quantify material requirements from drawings, facilitating efficient resource allocation.
  • Implement procedures for proper job cost allocation.
  • Negotiate contract variations, ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Issue payment certificates to subcontractors, calculate payments, and update spreadsheets accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the supply chain team to ensure visibility of liabilities.
  • Issue subcontract enquiries, compare quotes, negotiate, and place orders.
  • Contribute to monthly financial reporting.
  • Negotiate final accounts with main contractor QS.
  • Predict cash flow across all contracts to meet company turnover goals.
  • Work closely with estimating, design, purchasing, and contracts teams to identify changes and potential overspends, ensuring costs are recovered and future overspends avoided.
  • Support the Commercial manager in providing cost control and reporting on individual contracts, as well as overall cost management.
  • Supervise and train assistant/trainee QS.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A confident personality with excellent communication skills to interact effectively with various disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Previous experience working for a specialist sub-contractor is essential.
  • Cladding knowledge is desirable.
  • A proactive, flexible approach with the ability to work under deadlines.

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum.
