Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Scientist to join our Cellular Pathology team at University Hospital of North Tees. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing routine laboratory operations, ensuring accurate and timely diagnostic results, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnostic Excellence: Perform and prioritize laboratory techniques according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring accurate and timely results that contribute to high standards of patient care.
  • Training and Development: Assist in the training and mentorship of Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Medical Laboratory Assistants, and other staff members, supporting their growth and development within the department.
  • Quality Management: Participate in maintaining and implementing quality standards, including the use of the Q-Pulse Quality Management System, performing risk assessments, audits, and ensuring compliance with ISO 15189 standards.
  • Scientific Expertise: Engage in advanced troubleshooting of complex equipment, participate in the critical evaluation of new methodologies, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with the laboratory team, departmental managers, and external healthcare providers, ensuring the accurate dissemination of patient results and collaborative problem-solving.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

  • HCPC Registration: Must be registered as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Relevant Degree: A degree in Biomedical Science or a closely related field accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Specialist Portfolio: Completion of an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology or another relevant discipline.
