Job Description:

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Statutory Requirements: The YOS Court Officer will be responsible for fulfilling statutory requirements placed on the Youth Offending Service by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and any proceeding legislation.
  1. Youth Offending Service Promotion: Promoting the quality of the Youth Offending Service's work in partnership with the Criminal Justice Agencies and the Judiciary, influencing remand and sentencing decisions.
  1. Public Protection: Undertaking assessments including safeguarding and vulnerability to determine the appropriateness of placements in respect of children and young people entering the secure estate.
  1. Court Representation: Representing the Youth Offending Service and promoting its aims within the Court setting, including the presentation of verbal and written reports.
  1. Equal Treatment and Sensitivity: Ensuring that all actions reflect the principles of equality of treatment and sensitivity to individual needs adopted by the Youth Offending Service.

Requirements:

  1. Criminal Justice Background: A minimum of experience in working within the Criminal Justice setting, preferably with vulnerable populations.
  1. Strong Analytical Skills: Proven ability to analyze complex information and present it clearly in reports.
  1. Effective Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with colleagues, young people, and their families.
  1. Ability to Work Under Pressure: Demonstrate the ability to work effectively under pressure, managing competing priorities and deadlines.

  1. Assessment and Intervention: Ability to conduct thorough assessments and interventions to address the needs of young people who offend.
