Senior Environmental Consultant

As a Senior Environmental Consultant at FiveRivers, you'll be part of a team of passionate and proactive industry experts with sustainability at its core. FiveRivers are an industry specialist in the consultation, design, and implementation of ecological and environmental solutions. With over 25 years' of working with nature, the business is experiencing sustained growth driven by its customer-centric focus.

The Role

This role draws on extensive expertise in ecological principles, geomorphology, environmental science, and design innovation to create and implement solutions that harness the natural environment's benefits to meet project goals. A key focus is identifying approaches that promote and enhance biodiversity.

Main duties will include:

Project Management

  1. Lead and manage the delivery of design team projects, delegating tasks, mentoring junior team members, and reporting to senior staff when additional support is required.
  2. Oversee the line management of consultant-level staff or junior team members, ensuring their performance aligns with project goals and company standards.
  3. Manage and coordinate design team projects within the 5R Design and Build business unit, ensuring adherence to Safety, Quality, Time, and Cost (SQTC) metrics.
  4. Manage resource allocation and project capacity to ensure successful programme delivery, while overseeing team competency development and workload distribution.
  5. Commercial acumen applied, with a holistic understanding of link between project, programme and business unit performance.
  6. Responsible for management of project budgets, forecasting and commercial reporting. Building and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders such as clients, subcontractors and supply chains.
  7. Senior Environmental Consultants are responsible for CDM compliance, including design risk management and environmental solutions. They are expected to take a holistic view of projects, delegate tasks, and mitigate any identified risks. Unresolved risks must be escalated to senior staff.

Team Management

  1. Ensure adherence to 5R processes and values while driving innovation and implementing improvements across the team.
  2. Mentor, support, and manage the team to fulfil their roles. Growing our people with role succession and personal development at the forefront for business continuity.
  3. You will foster a collaborative team environment and ensure effective communication among team members.

Bids and Tenders

  1. Expected that Senior Environmental Consultants will work with the Bids team and support estimators in the management, coordination and production of high-quality fee proposals and technical quality responses leading to successful award of contracts.

Business Development and Innovation

  1. In this role, you will support the Design and Build Manager in sales and key account management, while actively seeking new business development opportunities. This includes identifying key decision-makers and interpreting customer requirements to generate business for the Design and Build team.
  2. Additionally, you will be responsible for identifying and promoting 5R services and innovations across various platforms, such as conferences, webinars, and articles, to enhance the company's visibility and growth.

We are looking for someone who has:

  1. Experience in designing solutions in the water environment (or similar industry).
  2. Experience in project management and has commercial acumen.
  3. Experience of bidding and winning works in the environmental sector.
  4. Experience of Auto CAD and ArcGIS preferable.
  5. Excellent communication skills including the ability to present proposals.
  6. Full driving licence (for site visits).

Role Requirements

  1. Minimum 4 years in consultancy or equivalent.

Please note, we're flexible on location but there will be a requirement to visit the office regularly, particularly when you first start. We are now based out of Codford, near Warminster in Wiltshire.
