Job Overview


At Transformation Unit, we are seeking a Cancer Care Specialist to join our oncology team. This is a substantive position for a Consultant Medical Oncologist who will provide specialist input to the lung and melanoma services within our trust.


The ideal candidate will have a strong patient-centred approach, excellent teamwork skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality patient care. We welcome applications from those interested in less-than-full-time work and are committed to accommodating particular interests or tumour sites the successful candidate may wish to pursue.


Main Duties



  • Maintain and foster links with multi-disciplinary staff groups within Oncology, the palliative care teams, colleagues in medical and surgical specialties, and colleagues in primary care.
  • Offer as many patients as possible access to a clinical trial.

Person Specification



  • Full General Medical Council registration.
  • Entry on the Specialist Register as a Medical Oncologist or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the advisory appointments committee.
  • Higher qualification in Medicine.
  • Research degree (MD/PhD).
  • Additional qualification in Quality Improvement, Medical Education, Management or other pertinent expertise.
  • A full understanding of clinical risk assessment.
  • Clear logical thinking showing an analytical/scientific approach to clinical practice.
  • Experience in Medical Education.
  • Non-judgemental in approach to patients and colleagues regardless of their sexuality, ethnicity, disability, religious beliefs or financial status.
  • Flexible and resilient.
  • Able to meet travel commitments of the post.

Management Expertise



  • Participation in clinical audit including completion of audit project.
  • Understanding and experience of Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement.

Educational Experience



  • Training of resident doctors.

Research Experience



  • Active involvement in clinical trials.
  • Research degree (MD/PhD).
