Job Summary

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Colorectal Surgery to join our team. This is a whole-time/part-time post available from December 2024, with a one-year fixed term contract.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for the surgical management of elective and emergency colorectal surgery, working within a department of 10 colorectal surgeons across three sites. The role will involve delivering cancer, benign, and proctology surgery, as well as lower GI endoscopy lists and participation in the Emergency General Surgery service based at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

About the Department

The Colorectal Service is a department of 10 colorectal surgeons within the Surgical Directorate based at the Churchill Hospital. The Directorate comprises of Colorectal Surgery, Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, Hepatobiliary Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, Elective and Emergency General Surgery. The department's expertise covers the full range of colorectal surgery with high volumes of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders, and proctology.

Person Specification
  • Experience in a specialist colorectal unit
  • Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems
  • Open and laparoscopic colorectal surgery
  • Colonoscopy - independent practice
  • Effective administrative and time management skills
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training
