Job Summary

A whole-time/part-time post as Consultant in Colorectal Surgery is available at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a one-year fixed term post available from December 2024.

The appointment is on a whole-time/part-time basis, but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.

Main Duties of the Job

The post-holder will work in the field of Colorectal Surgery, providing elective Theatre, Clinic and Lower GI Endoscopy services and contribute to the reduction of the colorectal waiting list in proctology.

The post holder will participate in the on-call rota for Emergency General Surgery services based at the John Radcliffe Hospital site working alongside a team of dedicated Emergency Surgeons.

About the Department

The Colorectal Service is a department of 10 colorectal surgeons within the Surgical Directorate based at the Churchill Hospital.

The department's expertise covers the full range of colorectal surgery with high volumes of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders and proctology.

Person Specification

  • Experience in a specialist colorectal unit
  • Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems
  • Open and laparoscopic colorectal surgery
  • Colonoscopy - independent practice
  • Effective administrative and time management skills
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training
