Job Description

Role Overview

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the development and implementation of a sustainable model for regulatory capacity strengthening. This role will involve working closely with international partners, including the World Health Organization, to enhance the regulatory capacity of low- and middle-income countries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of global and UK priorities for regulatory capacity strengthening, and identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership working.
  • Design and implement a sustainable model for regulatory capacity strengthening, including the development of a proposal to build the capacity of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency to deliver capacity building interventions.
  • Work closely with international partners, including the World Health Organization, to develop and implement a coordinated approach to regulatory capacity strengthening.
  • Identify and secure long-term funding streams to support the development and implementation of the regulatory capacity strengthening model.
  • Deliver specific proposals under the International Centre of Regulatory Excellence (ICRECH) programme, in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
  • Cross-departmental stakeholder engagement to maximize value to the public purse through the harmonization and prioritization of objectives and exploring opportunities for partnership working with other health ALBs.
  • International stakeholder management for regulatory capacity building delivery, and development, working with the World Health Organisation to ensure an integrated international approach which responds to the identified needs of Low- and Middle-income countries (LMICs) and maintaining an overview of MHRA activity in LMICs, and reporting through MHRA management structures.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrable experience of international development programme management, including financial management, preferably including working to UK FCDO programme requirements.
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
