Graduate SEN Education Specialist
Explore a career in Special Education Needs (SEN) sectors as a graduate.
This exceptional opportunity allows you to delve into the world of autism, understanding its broader sociological influences while gaining valuable hands-on experience. You will work closely with children aged 4 to 16 with autism, ranging from low to high-support needs. Your role as an SEN Teaching Assistant will provide tailored support to help students build essential life skills, manage emotions, and make academic progress.
About the Role
You will analyse how autism interacts with social, cultural, and environmental factors that shape each child's experiences, positively and negatively. You will engage with various therapeutic approaches, including sensory integration, speech and language support, and behaviour management strategies. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate with teachers and therapists to deliver personalised education plans.
What You'll Gain
This role provides a unique chance to understand autism in depth, including the external factors that can influence children's progress and challenges. You will gain practical experience working with children in a nurturing and therapeutic environment. This experience will give you direct insight into how autism impacts children's development and prepare you for further training in Educational Psychology or related fields.
Key Skills and Attributes
We are looking for candidates who are empathetic and reflective, with a genuine passion for supporting children with autism. You should be intrigued by the impact of societal and environmental factors on children's mental health and learning. Resilience and adaptability are key, as you will need to manage challenges while prioritising the children's safety and progress. A degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field is preferred, but not essential.
