Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer to join our team at Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with expertise in drainage and flood risk management to contribute to the development, implementation, and management of requirements under relevant legislation.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing flood risk activities, developing Local Flood Risk Strategies, and ensuring compliance with regulations. They will also supervise site investigations and projects, engage in flood alleviation schemes, manage the Tip inspection programme, and foster health and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage flood risk activities, including ordinary watercourse consents, Land Drainage Bylaw Consents, and Sustainable Drainage Systems Approvals;
  2. Develop and implement Local Flood Risk Strategies to mitigate flood risks;
  3. Supervise site investigations and projects to ensure compliance with regulations;
  4. Engage in flood alleviation schemes and initiatives;
  5. Manage the Tip inspection programme to ensure effective maintenance;
  6. Foster health and safety compliance across all aspects of the role.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • A qualification to HNC/HND or higher in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a similar discipline;
  • Strong interest and knowledge in drainage and/or Flood Risk Management;
  • Experience managing staff, delivering Project Appraisals, Flood Investigations, and using AutoCAD and GIS systems;
  • Knowledge in Site/Contract Supervision, Hydraulic Modelling, and Asset & Risk Management is desirable;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in partnerships and teams;
  • A valid UK driving licence and ability to travel independently;
  • Basic level of Welsh Language skills.
