Behaviour Support Assistant Role Overview

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated 'Good' secondary school in Levenshulme. This is a full-time position starting in December, with the potential for a permanent role based on performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support for students with behavioural needs, helping them to regulate their emotions and improve their behaviour.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of behaviour management strategies and individualized behaviour plans for students.
  • Supporting classroom teachers by managing and de-escalating disruptive behaviour, ensuring a calm and productive learning environment.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with students to help them feel understood, supported, and motivated to engage in their education.
  • Liaising with teaching staff, the pastoral team, and parents/carers to ensure a coordinated approach to student behaviour and well-being.
  • Monitoring and reporting on students' progress, both behaviourally and academically, and adjusting support strategies as needed.
  • Assisting in the delivery of structured interventions and activities aimed at improving students' social skills, emotional literacy, and overall well-being.
  • Promoting a positive and inclusive school culture by encouraging respectful behaviour, cooperation, and positive attitudes among students.
  • Supporting after-school clubs or interventions as required to provide additional guidance and help for students outside of lesson times.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with young people, ideally in a school setting or in a role focused on behaviour management or pastoral support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to managing challenging behaviour, with a genuine desire to support students in overcoming their difficulties.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, able to manage a varied workload effectively.
  • A proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to adapt to the dynamic needs of students and the school.
  • An understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies, with the ability to apply them in a school setting.
