About Our Graduate Programme

We're excited to offer a challenging and rewarding graduate opportunity in Substation Design with National Grid plc, one of the UK's leading energy companies. Our graduate programme is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving industry.

As a Trainee Engineering Design Graduate, you'll be responsible for preparing electrical, protection/control, mechanical and civil designs for schemes to construct, extend or modify electricity substations. You'll work closely with our experienced teams to develop innovative solutions and drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configuration of programmable scheme logic for protection relays.
  • Design and specification of substation plant and protection systems, for applications up to 132kV.

Requirements

You'll need to have a minimum 2:2 in Electrical Engineering, Math, Sciences or Data Science Degree. You'll also need to have a full valid UK driving license and be able to demonstrate your right to work in the UK.

Location

This role is based in Bristol or Cardiff, offering flexible hybrid working and opportunities to travel throughout the UK.
