About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Interim Head of Legal Services and Policy to join our team at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our leadership team, you will provide expert legal and practical advice to the Trust, ensuring that we maintain high professional standards and actively seek opportunities to develop ourselves and others within the Legal Team.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide advice and training on specialist litigation issues, working autonomously within delegated levels of authority and advising the organisation on how to interpret and implement relevant policies and law.
  2. Maintain high professional standards, actively seeking opportunities to develop self and others within the Legal Team, and prioritising the workload of the Legal Team.
  3. Work within Trust policies and procedures, ensuring that the Legal Team operates effectively and efficiently.
  4. Lead the Legal Team, providing supervision and line management, and ensuring that the team is equipped to provide high-quality legal advice and support to the Trust.

Requirements
  1. Management qualification or previous role in management.
  2. Degree in Law (or other degree with completion of relevant conversion course).
  3. Post Graduate Masters qualification and/or equivalent experience.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  1. Postgraduate degree in Medical Law or Medical Law and Ethics.
  2. Risk Management methodologies.
  3. Communication planning.
  4. Performance management processes.
  5. Financial management.
Experience
  1. Experience preferably in defendant clinical negligence litigation.
  2. Experience in attending inquests and conducting advocacy.
