About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Behaviour Mentor to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other related special educational needs within a school setting in Wheatley, Oxfordshire.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 or small group support to children with ASD/Autism, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
* Work collaboratively with class teachers to implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and ensure that the specific needs of each child are met.
* Use a variety of teaching techniques, including visual aids, sensory activities, and structured routines to support children's learning and development.
* Assist with the social, emotional, and behavioural development of children, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
* Support students during transitions between activities and throughout the school day, ensuring consistency and stability.
* Maintain regular communication with teachers, parents, and the wider team to monitor progress and adapt support strategies as needed.
* Provide assistance with personal care, where required.
* Assist in managing challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques, always promoting a positive and supportive environment.
* Attend regular training and development sessions to stay informed of the latest practices in supporting children with ASD.
Requirements:
* Previous experience working with children with ASD/Autism or other related special educational needs, preferably within a school or educational setting.
* Knowledge of effective strategies and interventions for supporting children with ASD, including sensory needs and communication difficulties.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
* Patience, empathy, and a calm demeanour when working with challenging behaviours.
* Ability to work as part of a team but also independently with initiative.
* Basic understanding of safeguarding and child protection protocols.
* Relevant qualifications in Special Educational Needs (SEN) are desirable but not essential.
