About the Job

As a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate in Sustainable Composites Engineering, you will play a key role in developing innovative materials and processes for aircraft interiors. This project aims to address market concerns around weight, environmental impact, lead-time, and cost through the use of sustainable and lightweight materials.

Responsibilities
  1. Conduct a comprehensive survey of literature to identify suitable bio-based and/or recyclable core materials for sandwich composites.
  2. Develop advanced finite element models to simulate representative load cases for sandwich composites and core materials.
  3. Characterise and test various materials, including polymer trim materials, sandwich composites, and core materials, to evaluate their mechanical and physico-chemical performance.
Required Qualifications
  • A strong background in a relevant physical science or engineering discipline, such as a good honours degree, postgraduate research degree, or doctoral level qualification.
  • The ability to think creatively and contribute to projects delivering significant industrial or academic impact.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the capacity to work effectively within a team.
  • Knowledge of sandwich composite materials and their mechanical properties.
  • Experience with computational modelling, such as CAD or finite elements, of complex structures.
  • Hands-on experience with experimental testing of materials and structures.
