Culinary Manager

  • £ per hour
  • 35 hours per week
  • Working pattern: Monday to Friday 7am - 2pm
  • Term Time only

**Equated pay (sometimes known as spread-over pay) is a method of paying you for your contracted hours, working weeks and holiday pay spread over 12 months instead of just receiving pay during the months that you work and none during the school closures/non-working weeks. This means that you get paid equal amounts of pay every month. Further information will be supplied at interview stage.**

Key Responsibilities

Manage the Replenishment of Food and the Dismantling of Work Areas

  • Oversee the replenishment of food and beverages to ensure a seamless service.
  • Manage the dismantling of work areas at the end of service to maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.

Develop and Mentor the Kitchen Team

  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the kitchen team.
  • Mentor and coach team members to ensure they are equipped to perform their duties effectively.

Control the Complete Catering Operation

  • Manage the complete catering operation, including labor, food, and stock expenses.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize costs and improve efficiency.

Ensure Uniformity in Food and Service Standards

  • Ensure uniformity in food and service standards provided to fellow staff members, visitors, and students.
  • Develop and implement quality control measures to maintain high standards.

Manage the Creation and Development of Menus

  • Develop and implement menus that meet the needs and preferences of the school community.
  • Manage the creation and development of menus to ensure they are aligned with the school's nutritional standards.

Conduct Routine Audits to Ensure Standards Are Being Followed

  • Conduct routine audits to ensure that standards are being followed and that the kitchen is operating efficiently.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to maintain high standards.
Requirements

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Expertise in cooking on a large scale, with experience of managing a kitchen team.
  • Experience of following recipes and managing food preparation.
  • Previous staff supervision experience or line management experience.
  • Experience working with fresh produce and ingredients.
  • Awareness of the importance of adhering to health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Professionalism, leading by example and having a positive outlook.
  • Basic food handling skills certification, including NVQ Level 2 and Level 2 Food Safety Certificate.
