Position Overview

The Asbestos Services Officer will be an integral part of a skilled team dedicated to providing comprehensive asbestos testing and advisory services for Lancashire County Council and its external partners. This position focuses on the meticulous analysis of bulk samples submitted for laboratory testing to identify the presence of asbestos, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations regarding the safe management of asbestos materials.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Conducting analysis of bulk samples for asbestos in line with HSG248, LAB 30, and CM2 operational protocols, adhering to the Quality Management System.
  • Preparing and disseminating analysis reports, as well as assisting in the compilation of survey and air testing documentation.
  • Supporting the implementation of the UKAS Quality Management System.
  • Responding to general inquiries from both internal and external clients regarding sample submissions and providing expert advice.
  • Maintaining and updating electronic asbestos registers to reflect changes, including condition assessments, removal or abatement activities, and new findings.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the BOHS P401 qualification in asbestos bulk sample analysis and demonstrate relevant technical training and competencies through substantial experience in an asbestos laboratory testing setting.

Ideal Candidates Will Have :

  • Proven experience working autonomously with specialized systems and IT tools, including Microsoft Office, Laboratory Information Management Systems, and asbestos-related databases.
  • Familiarity with UKAS Quality Management Systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Experience in a client-facing role.
