We are seeking an experienced librarian to join our team at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. As an Assistant Librarian, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of our Open Science Roadmap and contribute to the development of our library services.

About the Role:
You will work under the Library Manager to revamp and refresh our library and its services. This role is integral to the delivery of our Open Science Roadmap and your work will support the Sanger Institute's founding principle that science is a public good.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Library in the day-to-day running of services, with responsibility for providing service to users and acting as a general point of contact for library services and inquiries.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders, develop library services to support researchers, and support the delivery of the department's work.
  • Manage systems supporting the recording and reporting of Sanger publications.
  • Liaise with the Informatics and Digital Solutions team and external suppliers to support the technical development of the library management system.
  • Review our publication workflow and develop library services and processes that support Open Access publishing.
  • Work with the Library Manager and Open Science Lead to identify developments in Open Access publishing and develop library services to ensure we deliver on our Open Science commitments.
  • Drive projects forward to bring them to fruition, prioritizing workload and providing advice and support to the department.

Essential Skills:

  • A librarianship/information management qualification or significant experience in a relevant library/information service.
  • Experience working in academic libraries and delivering a high-quality information service.
  • Experience working with library systems and supporting publication workflows.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Proven IT skills.
