About Health, Safety & Environment and the Role

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) team plays a vital role in ensuring that we operate safe working environments for all THG employees and visitors. The team provides on-site support to manage risks, completes audits and checks to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, and maintains legal environmental compliance to prevent the risk of litigation, financial penalty, and reputational damage.

The National HSE Advisor role will report to the Head of HSE (Operations & Manufacturing). The day-to-day responsibilities will involve working collaboratively with site leads across the UK acquired sites. The role will be accountable for providing competent HSE support to all acquired sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop location HSE strategies, programmes, and plans.
  • Monitor and challenge standards to promote continual improvement.
  • Provide guidance to the THG project team and contractors to implement effective safety methodologies on site.
  • Perform regular Health, Safety & Environment audits.
  • Relay findings to local management teams and implement immediate corrective actions.
  • Advise and support colleagues on their statutory duties within their areas of responsibility.
  • Assist in developing the company HSE Management system.
  • Involvement in contractor vetting and other contractor management processes.
  • Review and approve contractor risk assessments and method statements.
  • Report HSE hazards, issues, or near misses to the HSE Manager and local management teams.
  • Assist in developing and implementing HSE policies and procedures.
  • Participate in accident/incident investigation, root cause analysis, and reporting for corrective actions.
  • Raise HSE purchase orders.
  • Undertake new risk assessments and review current risk assessments.
  • Conduct and review COSHH assessments.
  • Assist in the fire risk assessment process.
  • Support environmental matters such as Environmental Impact Assessments and investigations, ensuring compliance with environmental legislative requirements.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years' experience in a HSE function in food and product manufacturing facilities and operations.
  • Excellent understanding and working knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
  • IEMA Environmental Foundation Certificate desirable.
  • Experience dealing with HSE issues swiftly and effectively.
  • Experience of maintaining an accredited OHSMS - ISO 45001 is desirable.
  • Experience of delivering IOSH Managing Safely is desirable.
