Job Title: Lead Software Engineer and Team Lead

We are seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer and Team Lead to join our team at ENGINEERINGUK. As a key member of our software development team, you will be responsible for designing and developing effective software solutions that meet complex business needs.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop software solutions that meet strategic business needs
  • Take ownership of cross-team initiatives to deliver value across the TV estate
  • Promote alignment of team products and services with BBC technology and architecture strategy
  • Provide technical knowledge and insight to peers and colleagues
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on others' code
  • Ensure software works well in its operating environment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues throughout the product life cycle
  • Define and document best practices and standards
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of team delivery and development processes
  • Mentor junior software engineering team members
  • Learn new technologies and introduce them where appropriate
  • Support recruitment activities such as conducting interviews
Requirements:
  • Extensive experience designing and writing robust software for large-scale applications in a fast-changing environment
  • Effective leadership and collaboration skills
  • Evidence of a logical and methodical approach to solving complex problems
  • Proactive individual who can identify and pursue relevant learning and development goals
  • Demonstrable experience in Javascript ecosystem and cloud technologies
  • Expertise in test automation and broader testing and QA concerns
  • Mentoring experience
  • Experience of utilising DevOps practices to ensure high availability of key products or services
  • TV software development experience
  • Experience developing accessible applications
  • Experience of open source practices
  • Experience working with media playback technologies (HTML5 Video, Dash/HLS, MSE)
