About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer and Technical Lead to join our team at the BBC. As a key member of our software development team, you will be responsible for designing and developing effective software solutions that meet the complex business needs of the BBC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop software solutions that meet the strategic business needs of the BBC.
  • Take ownership of cross-team initiatives that deliver value across the wider TV estate.
  • Ensure the team's software works well in its operating environment.
  • Mentor more junior software engineering team members.
  • Learn new technologies and keep abreast of existing technologies, and help introduce them where appropriate.
  • Help out with various recruitment activities such as conducting interviews.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Extensive experience designing and writing robust software for large scale applications in a fast changing environment with rapid release cycles.
  • Demonstrable experience in Javascript ecosystem and cloud technologies.
  • Expertise in test automation and broader testing and QA concerns.
  • Experience of utilising DevOps practices to ensure high availability of key products or services.
  • TV software development experience.
  • Experience working with media playback technologies (HTML5 Video, Dash/HLS, MSE).
