Quantum Computing Expert Leader

Quantinuum is seeking a highly experienced Quantum Computing Expert Leader to lead our team in the development of high-fidelity gates at our Broomfield, CO location. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, verifying, and deploying quantum gates using trapped ions as qubits. Your expertise in entangling gates and experience developing detailed error budgets will be invaluable in this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a technical team to design, develop, verify, and deploy quantum gates using trapped ions as qubits.
  • Benchmark gate performance.
  • Quantify gate error budgets.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to improve test stand subsystems.
  • Mentor junior team members on ion trapping and entangling gates.
  • Perform design trade studies and analysis.
  • Present scientific results internally, at conferences, and in publications.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets to deliver high fidelity gates to commercial systems as part of a broader commercial strategy.
Requirements:
  • PhD completed prior to starting.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience (PhD inclusive) involving one or more of the following areas: trapped ions, atomic physics, quantum information science.
  • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person, defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading a team in designing or operating a device for quantum information processing.
  • Experience implementing trapped ion quantum logic gates.
  • 5+ years' experience with trapped-ion quantum information processing.
  • 10 years' experience in scientific research and development.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, and experience in working with customers and partners.
  • Experience with laser cooling and trapping of ions or neutral atoms.
  • Experience performing simulation and modeling to inform experiments.
  • Experience quantifying precise error budgets.
  • Experience with control systems for data collection, signal processing and analysis.
  • Experience with laser systems, especially frequency-stabilized diode lasers, optical cavities, and phase or intensity feedback loops.
  • Experience with cryogenic systems.
  • Experience with ultra-high vacuum systems.
  • Experience with electro-optic devices, including photodetectors and light modulators.
  • Experience designing and testing micro-optical systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results within their field of research.
