Job Title: Technical Manager

We are seeking a highly qualified Technical Manager to lead the team building, maintaining, developing, and operating an H1-series quantum computer at RIKEN's Wako campus. This machine will be part of a Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry project to explore the integrated use of quantum computers and classical supercomputers, such as RIKEN's Fugaku device.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of scientists who build, maintain, develop and operate the H1-series quantum computer
  • Plan and execute operation and maintenance/development cycles for the QPU
  • Support classical-quantum hybridization efforts from the QPU side
  • Support site visits, lab tours, and overall site operations
  • Mentor, develop, and assess your technical team
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field preferred
  • 7 or more years of post-graduate experience (M.S. or Ph.D. inclusive)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience serving as the technical and/or people leader of an advanced technical team
  • Experience in complex task or program management (schedule, risk/opportunity, etc.)
  • A track record of high-technology (engineering or physical sciences) research and development
  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate technical topics in both English and Japanese
