About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Healthcare Support Worker to join our team at Benenden Hospital. As a key member of our Eye Unit, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our nursing colleagues in their daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with their care requirements, working closely with nursing colleagues to ensure seamless delivery of care.
  • Undertake delegated clinical tasks, including pre-assessment, admission, and discharge of patients, ensuring accurate and timely completion of tasks.
  • Assist in the ophthalmic procedure room, setting up equipment and supporting the transfer and positioning of patients.
  • Update patient information on IT systems, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Ensure patient care areas are maintained to a high standard, with effective stock management and cleaning protocols in place.
  • Follow standard operating policies and procedures, adhering to Benenden Hospital's high standards of care.
  • Assist in ophthalmic outpatients, utilizing ophthalmic equipment with confidence and accuracy.
  • Support the safe admission and discharge of patients, working closely with department nurses to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Train and support junior colleagues, promoting a culture of learning and development.
Requirements
  • GCSE level or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant professional qualification, such as NVQ Level III in Health & Social Care, or willingness to undertake.
  • Basic Life Support training.
  • Good IT skills, with experience of updating patient records.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Methodical approach, with attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Effective verbal communication, using tact and diplomacy to engage with patients and colleagues.
  • Strong patient-centred approach, with a focus on delivering high-quality care.
  • Strong team working skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
